After two sold-out concerts in 2016, the Fog City Singers, SF's buzzing new men's vocal ensemble, will return this April for our first public concert of 2017!
The program, titled "Back to Our Roots," will feature a cappella music from barbershop past and present, as well as complementing pop and choral selections—all ranging in mood from playful and light-hearted to poignant and heartfelt. The chorus will also perform several original arrangements, including a new commission from local composer Joel Chapman, with text by San Antonio-based poet Naomi Shibab Nye, in memory of our friend and classmate Ladidi Garba (1990–2016, Stanford ’11).
The concert will run approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
About the chorus
Fog City Singers is an innovative mashup project, building on a core of leadership from some of the nation's best barbershop choruses (Central Standard, Ambassadors of Harmony, Voices of Gotham, and Voices in Harmony) and drawing singers and artistic direction from some of the San Francisco Bay Area's most elite vocal ensembles, including Chanticleer, Volti, Philharmonia Baroque Chorale, American Bach Soloists, Clerestory, The Choral Project, Endersnight, International Orange Chorale, Golden Gate Men's Chorus, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Born as a passion project among six friends, an initial roster was assembled for a startup concert in late Fall 2015 for a yet-unnamed ensemble. Fog City Singers made its official debut in Spring 2016 and has performed frequently in both concert and barbershop-contest format ever since.
Our mission is to create a close fraternity of musicians, to apply diverse, world-class resources, and to revolutionize how barbershop music is performed and appreciated.
